The historic Tylney Hall Hotel in Hampshire provided a picturesque backdrop for a recent modern calligraphy workshop I had the pleasure of hosting.
In this blog post, I will share highlights from the event, the joy of teaching this beautiful craft, and the inspiring moments shared with the participants.
The grandeur of the hotel offered the perfect environment for creativity to flourish. The workshop was set up in one of the hotel’s elegant rooms, overlooking the water fountain at the front of the hotel, adorned with large windows that allowed natural light to flood in, creating an ideal setting for our artistic endeavour.
As participants arrived, they were greeted with a warm welcome and a beautifully arranged workspace. Each attendee found a personalised place card handwritten by me with gold ink, alongside their calligraphy kit at their seat, complete with practice sheets, nib, pen holder and black ink - All ready for the group to delve into the world of modern calligraphy for the first time.
Participants returned to their seats to practice strokes and letters, gradually building their skills and gaining confidence. It was incredible to see how quickly everyone progressed, transforming tentative lines into graceful swirls and flourishes.
To add a personal touch, I encouraged the participants to create custom pieces to finish off the workshop. Whether it was a favourite quote or a special message, this exercise allowed them to apply their newfound skills in a meaningful way. The joy and pride on their faces as they completed their unique creations was truly heartwarming.
No event at Tylney Hall Hotel would be complete without indulging in their delicious food. Participants took a well-deserved rest to enjoy a 2 course meal before heading home with their goody bag filled with calligraphy items to continue their creative journey.
Hosting the modern calligraphy workshop at Tylney Hall Hotel was a truly magical experience and I am grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to the wonderful atmosphere. It was a day filled with creativity, learning and joy, and I look forward to hosting more workshops in the future. I received lots of lovely feedback from the attendees too, which was so nice to see.
